Organic Clothing and Shoes | Stop the Sweatshops

AP - Fair Trade Fashion and Footwear
I found this really cool site all about helping to stop sweatshops from succeeding and creating an Organic alternative for your shoes and clothing instead.  This is a major passion of mine so I really want to help spread the word about why this practise should be stopped. Its people like us who buy products with no knowledge about how they are made and are inadvertently keeping the sweatshops alive and well.

Its time to change all of that and educate ourselves  about the damages we are inadvertently doing. There are ways we can change from buying unsuitable fashion items to products that are ethically made.  To supporting reputable companies that are explaining and publishing their manufacturing processes and material supply regimes and are trying to do the right thing for global sustainability.

On such company that is trying to do the right thing and promoting Fair Trade Practise is the  Autonome Fashion Company.

AP - Fair Trade Fashion and FootwearWhat do they do: They provide to the consumers who want to purchase high quality garments at competitive prices and at the same time they are helping you to better social and environmental sustainability processes. All this without having to cost a fortune and you can still have your own personal fashion style.

Why we need to use them: With our strong desire to make changes in the world to support global sustainability we can support the Eco system by only buying products that are ethically made and are benefiting us and the environment.

How you can use them: Us as consumers need to use these types of companies more often if we are ever going to stop the sweatshops from functioning. This practise must stop and is ethically and morally wrong and we are just as much to blame for it as the owners of the shops are who are  making  them work. If we in the western world stopped buying products from the sweatshop factory then they will go broke and have no need to continue. They would have to do this legally then.

AP - Fair Trade Fashion and FootwearWhere are they: Stores are located all over Canada and America. They have a store locater where you can look up the nearest store to you or you can purchase online.

How they operate: They work exclusively with small, independent cooperatives and Fair Trade-certified facilities located in developing areas of the world where there are enormous amounts of sweatshops located. Local communities also benefit from their generosity by improving  community buildings, health clinics and/or bringing a steady water supply to a small village.

They provide their workers with a fair wage so they can compete on the market to stamp out sweatshops. They assist them with the development, design, and marketing of their products so that their businesses may prosper and become thriving participants in a reconfigured global marketplace.

Autonomie Fashion Company prides its self on Eco-friendly practices that are employed whenever possible at their business’s operational level as well as at the manufacturing level of all of our suppliers.

AP - Fair Trade Fashion and FootwearWhat is Fair Trade and what is your Fair Trade premium?
Fair Trade is an ethical alternative to popular trading methods used by most multi-national corporations where the workers at the lowest level are squeezed in order for the purchasing company to make larger profit margins. Instead, Fair Trade employs a method of commerce that insures that the people producing the goods are paid a fair wage and are not subject to sweatshop conditions. The Fair Trade mission is to create a sustainable income and lifestyle for the world’s typically poor and disadvantaged producer groups, usually located in developing world countries, in order to alleviate global poverty and empower communities. Fair Trade is not charity or a hand out; it is a vital way of doing sustainable business on an equal platform with a fair exchange

There are a number of Fair Trade certification entities around the world that work to ensure that products with a Fair Trade label are truly upholding the social, economic and environmental standards typically associated with Fair Trade practices. Autonomie producer groups are certified by the Fair Trade Labeling Organization (or FLO), which is an international entity based out of Europe.
